My journey into the realm of legal terminology and courtroom scenarios began with a clear goal: to prepare with confidence for my career as a legal interpreter. This approach I have taken will minimize the impact of being surprised by courtroom drama and the intensity that defendants experience in such scenarios. You may be called to interpret in a murder trial or a rape case, or you might find yourself standing between the life and death of a person accused of kidnapping, child abuse, and murder. Alternatively, you may be the interpreter for a family man or woman facing deportation, forced to leave his or her children and the business, he or she worked hard to build.
You will witness the look of fear in the eyes of the defendant you are interpreting for. You may see people cry, you may witness hate, and you may witness what in your mind is “injustice”.
