A Professional Gift to the Interpreting Community from Samuel Arcelay
Constitutional Law
The Supreme Law of the Land: The United States Constitution is the oldest written national constitution still in force. It is not just a historic artifact; it is the "supreme law of the land," overriding any conflicting federal or state statute. For the legal interpreter, Constitutional Law is the most abstract and high-stakes domain of practice.
When an interpreter works in federal court—or even in a state proceeding involving civil rights—they are the voice of the Constitution for the Limited English Proficient (LEP) individual. Accuracy directly impacts the validity of the legal process.
